Jamie O’Brien is a surf legend, Pipeline barrel master, and ultimate waterman. In the Encyclopedia of Surfing, Matt Warshaw describes a waterman as “a surfer who is comfortable in a wide variety of ocean conditions, has a broad store of oceanic knowledge, and is accomplished in a range of surfing-related activities, including diving, swimming, sailing, bodysurfing, fishing, spearfishing, surf canoeing, and oceangoing rescue work. Most watermen are from Hawaii.” Even though many of Jamie O'Brien's stunts are intertwined with humor and absurdity, his mastery of the ocean allows him to push the boundaries of wave riding. Here are some of the craziest crafts Jamie O’Brien has ever surfed.
For many of us, glass and surfing don’t seem like a good combo. For JOB, however, it presented a new and exciting challenge.
Climbing his way to the top, literally, of the most absurd ways to ride a wave, this ladder has to be one of JOB's more creative inventions.
Why not push the limits of your favorite blow up bird.
Throughout his career, JOB has notoriously couch-surfed many dangerous waves. Here he is testing the limits of everyone's favorite piece of furniture at Pipeline.
This one may be hard to believe, but JOB did manage to somehow surf this traditional Hawaiian celebration.
Continuing with the bird theme, a pretty pink flamingo makes an appearance. For the record, JOB has surfed this flamingo in the ocean, but for entertainment reasons, here is JOB and friends riding down a storm drain in his favorite flamingo.
It seems at this point that JOB might have a thing for birds. There is duck diving, duck watching, but JOB brings the heat with duck surfing a river wave.
JOB has pushed the limits of what many of us thought was possible on a raft and become a master of Big Wave rafting.
More social than its distant cousin the sasquatch, a Supsquatch is a big wave riding machine. Here is JOB and crew tackling massive Sunset.
Who said Kayaks are just for flat water joy rides? Not JOB.
Not only a master at one board... but two mini ones. JOB tests the limits of water skis at Shark's Cove.
